FUN FACT: I have had short hair almost my entire life! When I was six my hair was little past my shoulders. It was very light blonde and shiny and amazing….then I got gum stuck in the side of my hair at my mean babysitters house and I didn’t want to get in trouble so I took some scissors and cut the gum out. I hacked it up so bad that I asked my sister to help me cut the other side to match. You guys, literally it was cut completely around my ears. We pinned it back with some barrettes and no one noticed…. until that night I was sleep walking (NO JOKE!) and my mom was up wrapping presents because it was around Christmas time. She yelled out “what did you do to your hair?!!” I was sleeping so of course I was startled and I freaked too, haha! I was crying hysterically and thought no one would love me anymore, it was so traumatic! The next thing I knew my grandmother was taking me to her hairstylist (who was one of those old ladies who smokes while rolling perms in her living room) and she cut ALL of my hair off. I don’t think we have many photos of me during that season! I seriously looked like a boy, it was so awful! Since then, I have not been able to grow my hair past my shoulders. I don’t know why but I can’t.freaking.do.it!
So along the way, over the last 27 + years since my horrible traumatic experience, I’ve had different short hair styles and I’ve found there are a few products that I just cannot live with out. I have fine hair so some of these products are not necessary for thick or textured (curly) hair. I also switch products around often; I’m constantly using something different. My hair tends to get use to products so I always have a variety of different brands in my cabinet.
These are my 5 Must Have Styling Products for Short Bob Hair:
Root Boost- Whether you have short hair or not, if you have fine hair you NEED to be using root boost! It truly makes the world of difference for volume when you blow dry. This one and this one are my favorites. If you have thick hair but still need body at the top, root boost is helpful for you too!
Blow Dry Lotion- Whether you want something for body, anti-breakage or for a little tame-ness, a good blow dry lotion is essential. I’m currently using this one and it smells like Heaven 😉
Dry Shampoo- It took me a while to get on the dry shampoo wagon and I really don’t know why, it’s freaking amazing! I shampoo my hair often because it’s really fine so product build up is a problem for me (I also have sensitive skin and my scalp gets irritated easily), BUT, when I need to run out the door I will do a dry shampoo day. Also, if you use dry shampoo after you’re done styling your hair on day one of shampooing (before a setting spray or hairspray), it will help soak up access oil from your products and it will dramatically help you the next day for ‘second day hair’. This one and this one are my faves, and this one is really good too.
Texture Spray– I’m very picky about texture spray. If it’s too waxy it gets too greasy, and if I spray too much then I have to shampoo my hair again and start all over, it’s so annoying! But, when I find the right one and it’s used sparingly, it’s an amazing product. This one is my absolute favorite and I love this one too!
Hair products are essential for achieving your desired style, EVERYONE needs to be using them! With short hair, I especially find I will never be able to live with out them. I hope this post helped some of you short (and long) haired ladies out there, thanks for stopping by!
