Last week I had a little bit of a melt down. I mean, being home 24/7 with four kids entitles ANY mom to a melt down right?! And did I mention I LOVE Christmas break?! NOT! And taking two toddlers and two preteen girls (one toddler was borrowed from my sister and one sweet girl was E.B.’s friend) to the mall was just the cherry on top. I called Matt on my way home, Hudson was fake crying and screaming in the back, Luke was shooting a fake gun that makes loud noises that I just about tossed out the window and EllaBleu was being bossy about where I am taking them, and I am pretty sure Matt sensed what was going to happen next… ‘I NEED A BREAK!!!!!’ I was either going to scream, pull my hair out or seriously consider pulling over to the side of the road and walking home. ALONE.
Needless to say, we all made it home alive and the first thing I did when I walked in the door was look at hotels in Phoenix, because a night away takes the blues away!! The next thing I did was find a girlfriend who could join me, thank God for Katie! Done and Done. I found the Firesky Resort and Spa in Scottsdale. It was close to the mall, all of the yummy restaurants and the price was super reasonable. It also had a shuttle that took us wherever we wanted within a 3 mile radius. SOLD! I booked that sucker up and for the next fews days, instead of losing my mind on my family, I just kept thinking about my little night away.
Katie and I got off to a late start due to my hormonal and impulsive idea to chop my hair off in EllaBleu’s bathroom (I’ve warned you in a prior blog post about the hazards of being an ’emotional cutter’), but we got down there with enough time to get some shopping in and lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. We had to make a pit stop at Sallys Beauty Supply so I could purchase yet ANOTHER razor to fix some loose ends on my hair, and the girl who rang us up was really sweet, she loved my hair! When I told her I had impulsively cut it that morning in my mirror, she proceeded to tell me ‘I can tell you cut it yourself but it looks almost salon quality’…. Oh boy. That was a tough swift kick in the face! This coming from the girl with a weave that looked like she had it in since 2009… But that’s ok, I swallowed her truth and out the door we went. We decided to have have dinner at this super chic and trendy place called Dakota. It has fantastic food but if you turn into a pumpkin at 10 pm like I do, make sure you get there early enough to eat . It turns into a night club around 10:30-11 and they start taking tables away to set up around 9…. But they have chandeliers in their bathroom stalls so it’s definitely one of my new faves!
Our stay at the Firesky was easy and enjoyable (they’re also dog friendly). Sunday’s weather was perfect for laying next to the pool at a warm 72+ degrees, although we had other plans. Next time we will definitely check out the pool and the spa. By the way, in case ya’ll didn’t know, most resort spas offer a day pass anywhere from $20-40. It’s a great way to relax and spend a day with your hubby or a girlfriend without spending a fortune, and you get to enjoy all of their amenities. Most spas have jacuzzis, saunas and/or steam rooms and some even have their own private pool!
I could go into more details about our Starbucks addictions, where we ate Sunday and our insane cookie binge (like two grown a*# women leaving Paradise Bakery with cookie crumbs and m&m’s over our face and yoga pants), but I don’t want to embarrass myself and Katie too much so I will stop here.
Hopefully all of you mommas out there can get away with a girlfriend for a night or two and enjoy yourselves! And if you guys have any other fun places that we need to check out, let us know!
