We never had such a thing called fall break when we were in school, it seems like they’re constantly taking time off! I’m ok with it since it’s a little break from our crazy routine, but I’m usually ready for them to go back shortly into the week 😉 Last week our kids had they’re fall break and we had originally planned a trip to Disneyland, but my older two were with their dad so we had to reschedule the trip. Secretly I was so relieved, it seemed like a huge hassle to go to Disneyland right now!
I’ve been wanting to take our kids to the Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale for a long time but I kept forgetting about it until we would drive by it, which was rare. Since we had time during fall break, I planned a little day trip to head down and check it out. Grayson, Hudson and I picked up my two older babes from their dads house and away we went. Austin was anticipating it would be ‘lame’, he is 14 and all! But it actually was pretty amazing. They only let small groups of people in at a time because it’s not very large. First they showed us a 3D short video on butterflies to help us better understand them and they’re habitat. Hudson was being so loud and running around in the theatre room, I was so annoyed! #momfail. I was worried that was just a taste of what he was going to be like in the sanctuary, he didn’t have a nap and it was pushing 1:30, UGH! After the video we moved into the small sanctuary filled with thousands of free flying butterflies. It was such an incredible sight. The butterflies kept landing on us and one guy even had some lay some eggs on his watch, haha! Austin was in heaven and Grayson didn’t want to move because he wanted them to land on him. EllaBleu stuck with me and we just took a million pictures. Hudson on the other hand had none land on him because he was roaring as loud as he could to scare them, and it worked. I’m pretty sure the employees were SO annoyed with him! But for the most part he did really good.
I bought the kids a bundle ticket with a mirror maze and lazer maze, so after we were done with the butterflies we headed next door for them to have a little more fun. Hudson was a little too young to do the mazes so I hung out with him and bought him a light up sword type thing that kept him happy. But then he was playing with it on our way home when it was dark and it was driving me freakin nuts! Oh the joys of 3 year olds, and I’ll do almost anything to keep that cute little grin on his face 😉
There’s also an aquarium that recently opened next door to the Butterfly Wonderland and you can buy grouped tickets to visit both places, but we decided to do that another day. The kids had such great time, they probably thanked me 5 times! Next time you’re in the Scottsdale area, make sure to check out Butterfly Wonderland! It’s not an all day thing (which I loved), but it’s an amazing and educational experience!
Happy Sunday friends!
