Holy moly! We’re head home form our spring break vacation and this trip we made sure we got our exercise in…. but we also made sure we ate A LOT!! And I mean A LOT. Sometimes I feel like or vacations are revolved around exercise and food! And I’m not reeeeeeally complaining, just pointing it out haha! For the last two years we have spent fall break and spring break in Newport Beach and the weather is usually really good, although the spring is a bit chillier then the fall. I actually was freezing the first few nights we were there but it warmed up as the week went on, thank God! It also snowed back home so I was totally ok with a couple chilly nights rather than snow!
When we’re on vacation I feel like I have extra time to really think about blogging and my creative juices get moving. I’ve been thinking so much about what I want to blog more about and fashion is always the first that comes to mind because that’s really where my passion is, so you might see lot more fashion posts on my IG, but I also really want to get back to my Sunday Seven posts as well. The last year or so I have taken some (or a lot of) rest from my blog and IG and it has been so good for my soul, but as good as it’s been, I tend to feel guilty for neglecting it. I can also get caught up in the comparison trap and I can get lost for hours scrolling through other peoples instagram feeds. I also have trouble with shopping too much (a post on that coming soon) and sometimes when I open my computer to work I tend to spend all my time looking at clothes, its a real struggle. And with my other IG account being deleted I can feel defeated at times and have no motivation to start over….. but sometimes starting over can be a blessing right?! So I’m just taking it one day at a time, on my own schedule. And with all of this being said, I’m learning to really find what rest is, what taking breaks looks like and accepting that rest is not always easy, but its good and can actually be motivational. Not just from social media, but from everyday, all consuming annoyances. Here are a few ways that help finding rest much easier (and enjoyable) 😉
SHUT IT DOWN. It’s totally obvious that shutting social media down is a must for brain rest, but shutting it ALL down helps way more. When I take a social media break I find myself constantly looking at the news and it was creating so much unnecessary anxiety and fear. I like knowing what’s going on in the world but I don’t need to know everything every minute of the day. I think too much knowledge can sometimes have a negative effect on us (I know some will disagree!) Anyway, try shutting down everything that consumes you and take a break from it all!
EXERCISE, another obvious. I have personal athletic goals but I also workout for the mental benefit. I’ve actually talked about this in previous posts but I really, REALLY, believe in it. I need to be active consistently. Even if it’s just 30 minutes of a walk or bike ride, that little bit of time is so good for my mind, I’m a happier mom and a happier wife!
MUSIC. It’s good for the soul! Truly it is. I have had so much healing in listening to music whether its jamming out in my car, in my headphones at the gym or listening to my favorite Christian music and cleaning the house, sometimes all I need is music to sooth my mind, heart and soul. As a matter of fact, when I went through my (traumatic) divorce years ago, one of the only things that got me through it was music and the gym! (And Jesus of course!) I jammed it out, sweat it out and prayed it out!
STRETCHING. Whether you’re stretching with yoga or by doing simple at home stretches, I’ve found it to be sooooo helpful in quieting my mind. I really want to make it a priority to stretch first thing in the morning. I think getting out of bed and taking a few minutes to stretch can set the tone for a peace filled day. I also think meditating has great benefits but I have never really been able to get into it, if that’s something that may help you, then do it girl!
JOY LIST. Creating a list of what brings you joy and putting it on your computer, on your fridge or wherever you’ll see it often will remind you to do something everyday that brings you joy. Write down small things too, like strolling around town, going to the grocery store (with NO kids!), reading a book, reading inspiring quotes, putting on lipstick, wearing high heels, chewing gum (that’s one of mine!) whatever it is, do one thing on your list everyday and you’ll feel like you tackled something, even if that’s the only thing you cross off your list that day, at least its something that sparks joy! (Not sure if this helps with rest but I thought it was a good tip 😉 )
I hope some of these things help you like they have helped me and I also want to hear what helps you rest. Let me know in the comments below! Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you have such a blessed Sunday!
