Do you ever wonder why someone started blogging? Or is it just me? I’m really nosy so I want to know everything about everyone all of the time. I’m sure it gets really annoying. I’ve tried to stop asking so many questions but I can’t help myself and before I know it, I know all about peoples grandmother’s aunt’s cousin’s uncle from Switzerland! Haha, ok, that’s a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point.
I touched a little but in my ‘about’ me page on why I started a blog, but there’s a little more to the story, like the famous question “How did you come up with that name?”… So incase you’re nosy like I am, I thought I’d share my journey to blogging with you!
Last year in September Matt and I were on our way home from a business meeting in Tucson and we passed by a strip mall that had a ton of great shops that I love. I mentioned how I wished we had time to stop and he said something like “You really enjoy that stuff. Shopping and fashion, you really get a lot of joy out of it”. I was thinking to myself “DUH! It’s taken you this long to realized this?!” But I just replied with a simple “oh yeah! I always have!”. Our conversation evolved from somehow finding a way to talk about shopping centers and stores I’ve visited, to starting a website where I rate the different shopping malls and experiences I’ve had. We ended our 5 hour drive home with the name Louies and Lemons (I’ll explain how we came up with the name below) for a potential website.
I was unsure of the direction I really wanted to go for a little while and I started to do some research. I realized the world of blogging was HUGE and I really didn’t know anything about it, I mean, who the crap has time to BLOG?!!!! Or even read them?! I stumbled across some really inspirational blogs, some fabulous fashion blogs and some awesome REAL mommy blogs, I LOVED ALL OF THEM! As I started to present this idea to Matt, I don’t think he was as excited about it as I was. I think his vision was more of an income producing site, not a ‘hobby career’. But, he saw how enthusiastic I was about it and he was on board and more than supportive.
With in a week I contacted a web designer and we were on the road to blogging! Yahoo!!! But wait, what the heck am I going to talk about?! My life consists of so much more than fashion and beauty must haves. Everyday life of being a mom isn’t sparkly and fabulous, though it’s joy filled, it’s not always ‘pretty’. But should I even go there? Should I strictly stay professional and keep my private life to myself? No, that won’t work, I’m too much of an open book. So, lifestyle blog here we come!
We came up with the name, well Matt really did, because every time I would go into Lululemon (seriously I live in their clothes and I also wrote a blog post about them that you should totally read!), he would confuse it with Louis Vuitton and called it “louielemon”. Haha! I still giggle when I think about it! We played around with the name the entire drive from Tucson to Prescott and I thought Louies and Lemons was PERFECT. Originally I thought it would be the Louis Vuitton experience at a certain store or shopping center, and the Lemon (sour) experience I may have had. When I decided to start a blog, I still thought rating stores and shopping centers would be one of the main focuses. That sure changed. And although I still like to talk about my personal experiences shopping, the focus of my blog became so much bigger and more meaningful than that.
As I started writing and completely loving it (it’s like journaling to me), I realized that there’s so much more I wanted to talk about. Like my family and faith for example. My life journey hasn’t been the easiest, but it hasn’t horrible. My faith has helped me through heart ache and triumph, but my decisions brought me to big mistakes and reality checks. I wanted to share these experiences because I know there are other women and people who can relate and maybe they need to know they’re not alone. So, then came the Sunday Seven. This is where I get more personal and spiritual and I absolutely LOVE this part of my blog.
As time has gone on, I’ve realized that the name Louies and Lemons means so much more than shopping experiences and spending money. It’s the transparency of the beautiful moments of everyday life, and the not so pretty, sour moments too, because we ALL have both. And although my blog is not income producing (unless I do a collaboration), it’s a fun experience that’s turned into a passion.
This blog has become therapeutic in a way and I’ve been able to find other creative outlets that I enjoy so much. After having Hudson (that story will be on the blog soon!), my post partum depression kept me confined and alone most days. I’m so happy that this big world of blogging has become a part of my everyday life and I’ve been so blessed to meet and connect with some amazing women on my journey.
